Grants for Stairlifts Ireland

Stairlift grants are available under the Mobility Aids Grant Scheme. The grant scheme was set up to help the elderly (Senior Citizens) the grant can be used for the acquisition of mobility aids! Stairlifts, Level access showers and grab-rails etc.

The grants are normally only available for the elderly but people with disabilities could also apply for a grant to purchase ramps and Stairlifts for easy access to and from the home

There are two types of grants available! Mobility Aids Grant or Housing Adaptation Grant. The housing adaptation grant is more in line for people with disabilities.

Mobility Aids Grant Requirements

Grants are available in Ireland for the elderly with a maximum household income less than €30.000

Home ownership status can affect if you are entitled to a grant or part funding towards the costs of purchasing mobility aids

  • Owner Occupier
  • House purchased via Local Authority tenancy scheme
  • Rented Accommodation, subject to duraration of tenancy could affect grant approval
  • Accommodation provided by the Voluntary Capital Assistance Schemes
  • People living in communal residence

Grants are normally prioritised based on the applicant’s medical condition /needs. The highest priority will be given to elderly seniors who are terminally ill.

Other high prioritised cases! Grants supplied to facilitate a faster discharge from hospital. Adapting the home for easy access or purchasing a Stair lift would be seen as high priority cases if it helps with you being discharged more quickly

Grants are evaluated by an Occupational Therapists (OT) assessment. Your local council will arrange for an OT to attend and carry out such an assessment. You can arrange for a private assessment and claim back the money up to €200 if your claim is successful

Who Qualifies for a Grant?

The Elderly Grant scheme is means tested based on your household income to see if you qualify for a grant and at which level if any you are entitled too

The figures below are not taken into consideration when calculating your total household finances’

  • Child Benefit
  • Family Income Supplement
  • Respite Care Grant
  • €5,000 for each member of the household (Aged up to 18 years)
  • €5,000 for each member of the household aged between 18 and 23 years and in full-time education or serving an apprenticeship
  • €5,000 the person for whom the grant is entitled, is being cared for by a relative on a full time basis
